Timothy Chambers

Writer & Artist

Timothy Chambers has enjoyed a fascinating career as one of America’s top portrait painters for over thirty years. Chambers’s ability to capture the essence of his subjects and the essence of the environment were unmatched; his portraits evoke the human spirit and the subject’s moment of life to create an intimate, timeless conversation of dignity and beauty. Chambers delighhts also in painting nature; his styles are two: Abstract Impressionist for his outdoor work and Impressionist Realist for his portraiture. His success and reputation are built upon his penchant for capturing the dignity of his subjects. You can enjoy a sampling of his work in the site’s gallery.

However, things change. A genetic degenerative eye disease has Chambers exploring new avenues of expression. Always a writer in private, he is bringing his affinity for communicating the intangible to the forefront of his creative endeavors. He returned to school to refine his writing acumen, graduating with an MFA in Creative Writing from University of California, Riverside in 2024. Already with two books to his credit, he has four more in the works, and airs out his thoughts on life (“I just can’t leave the big questions alone,” he says) through his blog. One publisher remarked that Tim may just be a better writer than painter, which, looking at his paintings, is quite the statement. “We’ll see,” Chambers says. “I always painted with about 24 colors on my palette; now I’ve got a few thousand word-colors to tailor my thoughts! I’m eager to see if I can tame them.”

Be sure to check out the About section on the site menu. Get to know Tim both as a portrait artist and as a person. You’ll be especially surprised when you read his inspirational story of building a career as legally blind and deaf artist with Usher Syndrome. Prepare to be amazed. Thank you for visiting!

portrait artist, commission portraitTim,  WOW was my first response, tears of joy because you did exactly what I knew you would do.  You captured Randy’s spirit, his integrity, his character, his serious side, but you also got that sly smile of the loving, caring, giving man he was.  I just can’t express what all has gone through my mind since seeing it.  I walked in and it was like he was there looking at me, his eyes just held mine like they were alive!  I know it is going to be something very special for those who worked with him all those years, they will love it and they will also appreciate it because it’s him! I am just so excited, happy, I can’t think of enough words to show you the depth of my feelings when looking at this portrait.
