Can you tell me a bit more about your online art classes?
Sure...the art classes will focus on developing draftsmanship (drawing) abilities of the students. Each class (Art I, II, and III) will will be more in-depth than the previous, and the skill level of fellow students will in general be higher. I will begin with a brief coverage of materials and establishing a benchmark of each student's current ability, and then move on to teaching the reason and purpose of the fundamentals. Fundamentals include the use of line, mass, values, color, composition/design, shapes, texture, and more. Exercises will include memory drawing, copying of works by the Masters, and original works by the students from life and photographs. Students will upload their work for review and critique. Will there be a text?
I wish! I am writing a text that will cover all that is taught in class. I have yet to find a book that teaches the classical method of drawing from beginning to end. Many books have something to contribute a particular area, but oftentimes offer not-so-good advice in another area, hence the new book!

Can you describe more of what an online art class will look like?
We'll cover four areas in each week's lesson: 1.art history, 2.teaching on principles and technique, 3.review/critique of students' work/assignments, and 4.new assignments. This combination has proven to be a good balance to produce steady improvement as well as a greater appreciation for great art. Oh yeah- it's fun!
