Values? Your life and your paintings depend upon them!

Pro artist Tim Chambers will teach kids ages 9-18 the importance of values in painting in the Values ArtShop…

“‘Good values will carry a painting much more than color will,’ my dad would tell me,” says Tim. “In this ArtShop we’ll learn how to recognize and use values to create strong, dramatic works in this ArtShop.”  Tim will continue training students in painting, focusing on the use of values, or shading, in paintings. Students will continue developing their painting skills, but setting the complications of color aside. In this ArtShop, students will learn:

• painting and shading skills and technique
• to recognize values in real life and in photographs
• see the use of values in Old Masters’ works
• the value properties of different mediums (e.g. pencil, paint)
• how to create a value scale with any medium
• the age-old technique of grisaille (pronounced griz-eye) through historical examples and practice
• interpretation of values from color references (e.g. photographs, prints
• how to copy a master drawing/painting
• art appreciation
• practice tips to continue learning at home until the next ArtShop!
